Ice Bathing in Lake Wolfgangsee

on in Rest & time out

When things quieten down around Lake Wolfgang, the mountains are dusted with snow and a chill hangs over the water, Berau Bay reveals its most special side. It is precisely then that many are drawn to the lake for a dip in the icy water – just a moment’s hesitation, a deep breath, and in goes the body.

Why ice bathing at Lake Wolfgangsee is so special

At first, ice bathing sounds completely crazy – and maybe it is, just a little 😄 But once you’ve stepped into Lake Wolfgangsee during winter, you quickly understand why people keep coming back. A short moment of hesitation, one deep breath and then straight into the cold water.

Quiet surroundings, cold water & that feeling afterwards

Our Berau Bay is located a little away from the busy tourist spots around the lake, which makes it the perfect place for ice bathing. No crowds, just nature, peace and direct access to the water.

Especially on cold winter mornings, the atmosphere feels truly special. Fresh air, calm water and afterwards there’s almost nothing better than warm clothes, a hot coffee or relaxing in the Berau Spa.

Start slowly & listen to your body

If you’ve never tried ice bathing before, it’s important to take it slow. The best way to start is during autumn or early spring, when the water temperatures are still a bit milder.

Our tips for your first ice bath

  • enter the water slowly
  • listen to your body
  • bring warm clothes to change into afterwards
  • don’t stay in the water too long

It’s not about staying in as long as possible. It’s simply about experiencing the feeling for yourself.

A winter experience you won’t forget

Ice bathing in the Berau Bay is definitely one of the most unique winter experiences at Lake Wolfgangsee. It might take a little courage the first time – but that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable.
